City of Southfield recognized as Patriotic Employer

The city of Southfield has been recognized as a Patriotic Employer by the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve for contributing to national security by supporting employee participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Force.

The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a U.S. Department of Defense agency that provides information, education, consulting and mediation services to employers and service members. The Committee assists employers to comply with the Federal Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and other federal statutes that cover the employment rights and responsibilities of military service members and their employers.

Southfield was recognized for their support of the City’s Web Administrator Rene Hinojosa who serves in the National Guard and is currently deployed on a one-year tour in Iraq. “My employer was very supportive during my previous deployment by continuing my benefits while I completed a 15-month tour in support of Operation Enduring Freedom,” commented Mr. Hinojosa. “When I returned, the city of Southfield was very supportive of my return to my previous position. I worked for six-months before being called up again for Operation Iraqi Freedom for a year. The continuation of my benefits has really supported my family by not having to change health insurance coverage while I’m deployed.”
