The city of Southfield, in partnership with Lakeshore Legal Aid, the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association and the University of Michigan Law School Entrepreneurship Clinic, will host From Expungement to Entrepreneurship: The Pipeline to Possibilities
clinic on Friday, April 6 from 2-6 p.m. in the Southfield Public Library Auditorium, 26300 Evergreen Road.
The expungement clinic will provide low-income individuals information on the laws and processes to apply for the removal of criminal charges from legal records. New cases will be opened for income-eligible applicants who are residents of Wayne, Oakland or Macomb counties.
The expungement clinic is available for people with two misdemeanors and/or one felony, five years after completion of sentence, probation or parole. DUIs and other traffic offenses cannot be expunged. The Expungement Clinic can only assist with convictions from the state of Michigan.
The free entrepreneur legal workshop will be presented by the University of Michigan Law School Entrepreneurship Clinic and is open to anyone interested in starting a small business. The workshop will provide information on how to set up an LLC or corporation; how to handle employee matters; how to trademark your logo and ideas; and when to draft contracts of financial documents.
