The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects to close 12 Mile Road from Telegraph Road (US 24) to Northwestern Highway (M-10), in Southfield, for culvert work at 7 a.m. on Friday, September 27. The road is expected to reopen on Monday, September 30.

There are lane closures in place this week on 12 Mile Road to prepare for the weekend work. The work is weather-dependent, and the schedule could change.

The closure is necessary to remove and replace a culvert under the road in advance of a 2025 road resurfacing project on 12 Mile Road, Telegraph Road/US 24 to Northwestern Highway/M-10. Access to homes and businesses along this section of 12 Mile Road will be maintained east and west of the culvert replacement, located just west of Case Avenue.

The detour for through traffic is Telegraph Road/US 24 to 13 Mile Road to Inkster Road, back to 12 Mile Road and vice versa. The work is being done mostly during the weekends to minimize traffic impacts.

The contractor for the project is Dan’s Excavating of Shelby Township. This section of 12 Mile Road carries approximately 23,500 vehicles daily.
