The Southfield Parks & Recreation department will host Fishing Fun on Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve, Ten Mile Road, east of Inkster.

The event is free and open to all ages as part of the statewide Free Fishing Weekend in Michigan program as an introduction to fishing for the whole family. Fishing Licenses are not required and participants can fish all weekend during regular park hours from dawn until dusk. Parks & Recreation staff will be at the park from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. along with Bass Pro Fishing and The Friends of the Rouge with crafts, casting practice and activity bags with coloring sheets, puzzles and more for kids ages 5-13.

The Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve features two areas to fish: the Fishing Platform and the Dam Site Fishing area. All participants must bring their own poles and bait (a single hook with artificial or live worms is recommended), a wagon or backpack to transport your gear from the parking lot to the lake, baby wipes, paper towels and hand sanitizer. Please note there is an almost half-mile walk through the woods to reach the lake from the parking area. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather.
