The city of Southfield is in the process of updating the 2026 Comprehensive Master Plan, a document created to establish goals and guidelines to manage the community’s redevelopment and growth. The Plan is updated every five years, following the Michigan Planning Enabling Act (Act 33 of 2008, as amended), for a review to determine whether to amend or adopt a new Plan.

The city of Southfield’s updated Master Plan will state policies and recommendations for the physical development of the City in addition providing background information for elected officials and administration to use while making planning decisions pertaining to the future development.  As a first-tier community, neither fully urban nor completely suburban, Southfield needs a master plan that will blend the new with the old. A public participation program will incorporate ideas from those who know Southfield best—the residents and business community.

The City is encouraging Southfield residents to participate in an 8-week public input survey process to provide an opportunity to respond to a series of questions pertaining to a wide range of topics that will affect the future of the community. Surveys will be available for participants to complete weekly starting Monday, February 1 through Friday, March 26 online at https://publicinput.com/sustainablesouthfield2026.
