Southfield City Council appointed Coretta Houge to fill the seat vacated by former Councilman Jason Hoskins effective December 14, 2022. Coretta Houge took the oath of office to serve on the Southfield City Council on Monday, December 12 in Council Chambers. Councilwoman Houge will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Jason Hoskins who was elected to serve State Representative for Michigan’s House District 18. Councilwoman Houge will serve until November of 2023.
Councilwoman Houge has been a resident of the City of Southfield for more than 22 years. She served on the City of Southfield’s Administrative Civil Service Commission, the Southfield Employee Retirement Board, and the Southfield Retiree Health Care Benefits and Trust Board. Professionally, Councilwoman Houge has held various leadership positions within the Healthcare industry for over 30 years.
Councilwoman Houge received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Detroit Mercy, graduating Magna Cum Laude; she received her master’s degree from Wayne State University, graduating Cum Laude. Councilwoman Houge is also a graduate of Leadership Oakland, class of XXIV. Councilwoman Houge is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and is a member of Unity Baptist Church of Detroit, Michigan.
