Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force, Inc. sponsors Justice & Equality Awards August 24

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force of Southfield will sponsor the Justice & Equality Awards in honor of the organization’s 40th jubilee on Saturday, August 24 at noon at Tapestry banquet hall located at 24580 Evergreen Road.

“Don’t miss out on this momentous occasion,” commented Faira Glenn, president of the MLK Task Force. “Join us in honoring those who have continued to carry forward this torch of progress at our ceremony celebration, which promises to be both reflective and inspirational.”

This year’s honorees are U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren, Michigan Supreme Court Justice Kyra Bolden, Former State Senator Vincent Gregory, State Senator Jeremy Moss, Portia Roberson, Focus Hope, Sharkey Haddad, Chaldean Chamber of Commerce, Retired Circuit Judge Denise Langford Morris, Southfield City clerk Janet Jackson, Rev. B. Kevin Smalls, Pastor, Hope United Methodist Church, Circuit Court Judge Kameshia Gant, Jazz artist Randy Scott, Professor Candelaria Donaji Mendez Tello, President, Mexico Negro A.C., Michigan House of Representatives speaker Joseph Tate, Community Activist Robyn McCoy, Community Activist Derek Ware, Yvette Ware-DeVaull, Southfield Public Schools, Community Activist Nicole Chen, Community Activist Elizabeth Whittaker Walker, Executive Manager, Page Toyota/Honda Jue Page, Community Activist Ida Cunningham, and Southfield Homeland Security Director Justin Beck.

All of the honorees will also be featured in the special edition 2025 MLK Program booklet as part of an ongoing tribute to those who strive for equality in our community.
