The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) will begin construction on Lahser Road from 11 Mile Road to Civic Center Drive in the City of Southfield on Monday, July 17.
Lahser Road between Northwestern Hwy and Civic Center Drive will completely close to through traffic beginning Monday, July 24. The detour for the closure for vehicles is Northwestern Hwy service drive eastbound to Civic Center Drive, back to Lahser Road and vice versa.
Pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles will also be prohibited from traveling through the construction zone. The detour for pedestrian and non-motorized vehicles is Northwestern Hwy service drive west of Lahser to First Center Drive to Civic Center Drive and vice versa.
Lahser Road between the eastbound Northwestern Hwy service drive and 11 Mile will be reduced to one-lane in each direction for approximately four weeks for concrete slab replacement.
Additionally, there will be closures of the on ramp to eastbound I-696/Coral Gables Street as well as the northbound M-10 exit ramp to Lahser Road. Detours will be posted in advance of those closures.
The $1.93 million project is funded by RCOC, the City of Southfield and Oakland County General Government (through the Tri-Party Program).
The project includes:
- Concrete reconstruction of Lahser Road from Northwestern Hwy to Civic Center Drive
- Concrete slab replacement on Lahser between Northwestern Hwy and 11 Mile Road
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalk ramps in limited areas
- Traffic-signal adjustments
- Improved drainage
The contractor for the project is Florence Cement of Shelby Township. The project is expected to conclude mid-September.
Lahser Road carries approximately 22,450 vehicles daily.
