The city of Southfield and the American Red Cross sponsored a Community Blood Drive on March 7 in the Southfield Pavilion that well exceeded its goal. The city of Southfield registered 39 total donors, collected 32 pints of blood and recruited 7 first-time donors.

“Your commitment to host a blood drive with the American Red Cross truly made a difference,” commented American Red Cross Regional Representative Trudy Smith. “Your efforts have helped boost the community blood supply and ensure hospital patients have the lifesaving blood they need.”

The next Southfield Community Blood Drive is scheduled for August 13 from 1-7 p.m. in the Southfield Pavilion with a goal of 25.

The need for blood donations continues to be greater than ever. Everyone who is able to donate blood is strongly encouraged to do so. In order to donate blood, donors must be at least 17-years-old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. There is no upper age limit.
