Learn about World Medical Relief, Southfield Human Services and the CHORE Program

The Southfield Human Services Department in conjunction with CHORE and World Medical Relief, will host Pop in to Meet on Wednesday, August 30 from 3-7 p.m. in the Southfield Public Library first floor meeting room, 26300 Evergreen Road. 

Pop in to Meet will allow the community to ‘pop in’ and learn about the programs Southfield Human Services, CHORE and World Medical Relief offer while enjoying free popcorn. The event will also feature information on Southfield Michigan Works! and new and used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing donated by Raymond James financial services will be distributed.

World Medical Relief will be taking $5 donations at the event to purchase crib blankets for homeless babies and toddlers. Every $5 donation provides one blanket and 20% of donations given during the event will benefit the Southfield Human Services Emergency Relief Fund.

World Medical Relief’s mission is to help the medically underserved at a local, national and international level through programs such as the Affordable Prescription Program, Durable Medical Equipment Program and the Blanket Relief Program. The Affordable Prescription Program provides affordable prescription medications to low-income people ages 18 and older who are uninsured or underinsured. The Durable Medical Equipment Program allows low-income people to obtain items such as walkers, canes, bed tables and other medical equipment. The Blanket Relief Program distributes blankets and hygiene kits to the homeless and agencies who assist families in need.

The Southfield CHORE program assists senior adults with maintenance tasks beyond their abilities, such as spring clean-up, grass cutting, leaf-raking, snow shoveling, cleaning home gutters and down spouts, replacing storm windows or screens and other physical tasks. Eligible participants must be 62 years old or over, or a permanently disabled person of any age who is living alone, low-to-moderate-income and own their own home.
