The Southfield Parks & Garden Club (SP&GC) is seeking new members and volunteers to join the club to assist with their many beautification activities and community service projects such as the Emmanuel Community Farm.

Formed in 2005, the SP&GC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable community service organization comprised of volunteers who work to beautify the city. The Club engages in litter pick-ups, plantings, cleaning up landscapes for elderly residents, garden walks and other various gardening activities. The Club also partners with the city of Southfield to sponsor and judge the City’s annual Community Pride Awards nominations.

SP&GC broke ground on the Emmanuel Community Farm in 2008 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church located at 23425 Lahser Road, north of Nine Mile Road. The all-volunteer farm uses organic seed and agriculturally sustainable farming methods to grow a wide variety of produce that is donated to Soup Kitchens and Food Pantries for distribution to those in need.  The Club welcomes anyone who wishes to volunteer their time and energy to help maintain the gardens.  You do not have to be a member of the Club to volunteer.  The Farm regular hours of operation are on Wednesdays from 3-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Southfield Parks & Garden Club holds monthly meetings on the first Tuesday of the month, from March through October annually, at 6:30 p.m. in the Southfield Parks and Recreation Building located at 26000 Evergreen Road. Parks & Garden Club membership and projects reflect a wide cross-section of residents, skill levels, and interests. Gardening enthusiasts and community-minded individuals of all backgrounds are encouraged to join and participate as their schedule permits. Membership is annual, March through November, with dues of $30.  Dues are tax-deductible as are gifts and donations.
