The city of Southfield announced the winners of the 2017 Photo Prize competition and public art exhibition at an awards ceremony on Wednesday, September 27 in City Council Chambers, 26000 Evergreen Road.
More than 90 submissions were received and initially reviewed by the Total Living Commission which selected the top 20 photos that were enlarged and placed on public display. The community was invited to vote for their favorite photo online at www.cityofsouthfield.com from July 3-August 18 with over 3,000 total votes cast. The results were determined by the most overall votes each finalist received. With over 1,200 votes, first place was awarded to Jo Caputo for his photo of Lawrence Technological University. Tiffany Bell was awarded second place for her photo of three children at the Burgh Historical Park, and Dave Veldman received third place recognition for his photo of a child walking at Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve. The Photo Prize finalists were invited to the ceremony and given their enlarged photos to keep as well as certificates for the top three winners.
The city of Southfield sponsored the Southfield Photo Prize competition and outdoor exhibition this summer to showcase the natural and architectural beauty throughout the city. The photograph that received the most overall votes will be featured in the City’s 2018 calendar. The other finalists may also be featured in the calendar and other city marketing materials.
