Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren to receive Michigan Chronicle Men of Excellence Award

Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren has been selected as one of Michigan Chronicle’s 2024 Men of Excellence honorees. The annual Men of Excellence awards celebrate African-American men who inspire others through their success in business, community involvement and philanthropy.
The Men of Excellence awards will be presented at an induction ceremony on Thursday, June 27 at the MGM Grand Ballroom in Detroit. A VIP hors d’oeuvre reception will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the induction ceremony following at 6:00 p.m.
The Michigan Chronicle Men of Excellence Awards recognizes local African American men who inspire others through their vision, leadership, exceptional achievements, and participation in community service. They are men who exemplify extraordinary stature and integrity who continue to break the mold and affect change in their professions and community. These men influence those around them to go beyond the norm and strive for greatness. They are champions of our economic empowerment and diversity, the backbone of our business, religious and educational organizations, and driving forces in politics and service.
