Southfield seeking volunteers to serve on City Boards & Commissions

The City of Southfield Needs You! Calling all volunteers who want to give back to their community
The City of Southfield’s municipal boards and commissions are an excellent way to serve your community by volunteering your time and talents. Southfield’s many boards and commissions are comprised of concerned residents and business people like yourself who volunteer to assist the operation of city government and the Southfield community. There are 30 different boards and commissions to choose from, many requiring no other experience or qualifications than a commitment to serve and give back to the community.
There are currently several openings on the following Boards & Commissions:
- Construction Board of Appeals - 1
- Southfield Housing Commission - 1
- Property Maintenance Board of Appeals - 4
- Downtown Development Authority - 1
- Southfield Employee Retirement Board (SERS) - 1
- Total Living Commission - 3
- Board of Zoning Appeals - 1
Boards and commissions members, appointed by the Mayor and/or City Council, represent more than 150 civic-minded individuals who donate their time and expertise for Southfield’s betterment. Some decide appeals on the strict application of city codes and ordinances; others assist departments by providing direction and establishing policy; and still others examine a variety of issues and formulate recommendations to City Council.
