Volunteers Needed for the 8th Annual Mayor’s Big Rake
November 30, 2023
Southfield Mayor Kenson Siver, in partnership with Southfield Great Lakes Ace Hardware, Home Depot and Lowes of Southfield, will host the 8th annual Mayor’s Big Rake on select Saturdays, November 11 & 18 and December 2 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Big Rake is organized by the Mayor’s Office to help seniors or disabled Southfield residents with fall lawn maintenance. Volunteers are needed to help rake leaves. Southfield Great Lakes Ace Hardware, Home Depot and Lowes of Southfield donated paper yard bags for use at the event. Mayor Siver has donated 80 rakes which will also be provided to volunteers. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves. Other dates and times may be scheduled depending on available volunteers and the need. Last fall, 250 volunteers helped clear 75 yards in five days.
"The Big Rake is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and help your neighbors who need our help the most,” commented Southfield Mayor Kenson Siver. “By volunteering, you can make a real difference in the lives of our elderly and handicapped neighbors. It's a rewarding experience that lets you see firsthand the impact that your kindness can have. Together, we can show our neighbors that Southfield cares."
Interested volunteers can contact the Mayor’s office at (248) 796-5100 or e-mail vperry@cityofsouthfield.com. Please note that applications for raking assistance is closed for 2023.
