Volunteers Needed for the Mayor’s Big Rake
November 11, 2021
Southfield Mayor Kenson Siver, in partnership with Southfield Home Depot, Southfield Lowe’s and Great Lakes Ace Hardware of Southfield, will host The Big Rake on Saturdays November 13, 20, and December 4 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Alternate date (yet to be confirmed) is Saturday, December 11. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, operation of this program will be limited and conducted with all recommended safety protocols. CHORE program households, which assists income-eligible seniors with home and yard maintenance, will be prioritized.
The Big Rake is organized by the Mayor’s office to help senior adults or disabled Southfield residents with fall lawn maintenance. Additional volunteers are still needed to help rake leaves. In 2020, more than 180 volunteers helped to clear over 96 yards.
Individuals interested in volunteering to rake should contact the Mayor’s office at (248) 796-5103 or e-mail vperry@cityofsouthfield.com or bastrop@cityofsouthfield.com. Volunteers must be at least high school age. Individuals or groups (churches, fraternities, sororities, youth, clubs) are all welcome and encouraged to participate.
Senior or disabled residents who would like to sign up to get their leaves raked can contact the Mayor’s office at (248) 796-5100.
