If you're an eligible veteran or covered person looking for a job or new employment opportunity in Michigan, see your Veterans' Career Advisor at Southfield or any Michigan Works! Service Center; or call (800) 285-WORKS (9675).

Your Veterans' Career Advisor will listen to you, ask questions and help you put together a detailed action plan.

Employment Priority

As an eligible veteran or covered person, you will receive priority status. Advisors can access jobs first and refer veterans before the jobs are available to the general public. Employers who have contracts with the federal government also have a responsibility to give veterans preference in hiring under federal law.

Job Searches

In addition to using the Pure Michigan Talent Connect, local job postings, and other resources, your Veterans' Career Advisor will use personal knowledge of the local job market to aggressively seek new or upcoming job opportunities by contacting employers on your behalf.

Career Exploration and Planning

Your Veterans' Career Advisor can work with you to examine career paths, educational requirements, job possibilities, wage potential and other factors important in planning your career. Tools may include interest inventories, personal interviews, skills analysis, and others.

Employment Barriers

Eligible veterans and covered persons may have other needs that affect their chances of finding a job. The Veterans' Career Advisor regularly networks with agencies and organizations to obtain services. These may include unemployment benefits, health services, living expenses, transportation, training, adaptive equipment, employer accommodations for veterans with disabilities, and others. Assistance with resume preparation, interview skills, bonding, or resolving problems are also available.
