City of Southfield seeking residents’ input for CDBG Community Needs Survey

The city of Southfield is undertaking a Community Needs Survey to identify a list of priorities for funding eligible Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) activities.
The city of Southfield receives CDBG funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide decent housing, a suitable living environment and expand economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons and neighborhoods. Eligible programs that have benefitted from CDBG funds include housing rehabilitation, sewer and water repair, senior transportation, youth recreation and education, emergency relief for rental, mortgage and utility payments, as well as homeless shelters, assistance for victims of domestic violence and fair housing.
Under the direction of HUD, CDBG rules require the City to develop a 5-year Consolidated Plan to establish funding priorities. An essential component of the Consolidated Plan process is the Community Needs Survey. HUD requires the City to consult with residents, agencies, groups, organizations, income-eligible persons, and other interested parties for their input to help establish the city’s program priorities for the next five years. The city of Southfield encourages residents and those interested parties to complete the survey by Thursday, February 25 at https://www.cityofsouthfield.com/form/cdbg-community-needs-survey-2021.
