Southfield Parks & Recreation to host Moonlight Movie Night February 20 as part of Southfield Celebrates Black History Month

Load your car up with your family, friends and all your favorite movie treats and drinks (no alcohol) and join Southfield Parks & Recreation Department for a pop up drive-in at the Parks & Recreation Building parking lot on Saturday, February 20. The Moonlight Movie Night will feature the 2019 drama Just Mercy starring Michael B. Jordan as world-renowned civil rights defense attorney Bryan Stevenson who works to free a wrongly condemned death row prisoner. This film is PG-13 (for thematic content including some racial epithets.)
The Moonlight Movie Night is free to attend, but is limited to 40 cars. Those who wish to participate must pre-register their car (make and model are required at registration) and show proof of registration upon entering the lot. Additional points to remember:
- Sound from the movie will be transmitted through the car via FM radio;
- Have food and beverage ready before entering parking lot as there will be no reentry. No food delivery service to cars;
- Arrive one hour prior to movie to enter the parking lot. Entry will not be granted 15 minutes past movie start time;
- This is a pet free event;
- Porta john will be available;
- Make and Model of Vehicle will be required for registration; and
- Event is limited to 40 cars. Participants must pre-register and show receipt to enter.
The city of Southfield Parks & Recreation department is presenting ‘Southfield Celebrates Black History Month’ to remember the contributions and celebrate the history of African-Americans. The final program will feature the return, virtually, of The Secret Society of Twisted Story Tellers® on Friday, February 26. Southfield residents and visitors can enjoy the outdoor Walk Through History display along the walking path on the front lawn of the Southfield Municipal Complex. Walk Through History features influential African Americans throughout Southfield and world history and will be on display February 1 – March 1. Also available throughout the month of February; while supplies last, are Black History Month Activity Bags, sponsored by National Heritage Academies and available for $5 each, containing activity sheets, stickers, themed coloring sheets by Naturally ILLustrated, crayons, a bracelet craft and more.
