City of Southfield appoints Justin Prybylski as new City Assessor

Southfield Mayor Dr. Ken Siver’s appointment of new City Assessor Justin Prybylski was confirmed by the Southfield City Council at the May 24 City Council meeting. Mr. Prybylski’s appointment is effective July 6, 2021 with the retirement of longtime City Assessor Michael Racklyeft.
“I am very pleased with the selection of new City Assessor Prybylski,” commented Mayor Siver. “With his strong credentials and experience, I am confident that he will be a great asset to the city and can hit the ground running.”
City Assessor Prybylski previously served as the City Assessor for Frenchtown Charter Township where he managed and directed a team to prepare and certify the annual assessment roll in compliance to the General Property Tax Act and State Tax Commission guidelines. Prior to his role in Frenchtown Charter Township, Justin held the Assistant Assessor position for the City of Livonia.
“I have worked for several diverse cities and townships, in many different capacities, including field reviews and training of staff,” commented new City Assessor Justin Prybylski. “These different positions have helped me to gain valuable experience with many different property types and people.”
Mr. Prybylski holds an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences with a major in Architecture and Construction Technology from Henry Ford College in Dearborn, Michigan. In addition, City Assessor Prybylski has achieved all three State Assessor Certifications from Michigan State Tax Commission Certification Programs including the MCAO(2), MAAO(3) and MMAO(4), and is a Certified Personal Property Examiner.
The city assessor is appointed by the Mayor with City Council approval. The assessor is responsible for verifying Southfield's tax roll by evaluating properties for the purpose of calculating property taxes.
