July 22, 2021
The city of Southfield Police, Fire and Parks & Recreation Departments, in partnership with the City of Lathrup Village, Lathrup Police, Optimist Club of Southfield-Lathrup Village, Hope United Methodist Church, 411 Therapy and Road Masters Vette Club, will sponsor a Bike Safety Rodeo on Saturday, July 31 from 9 a.m. – noon at Hope United Methodist Church, 26275 Northwestern Highway.
The event will feature a fun-filled day of learning the importance of bike safety. Kids, parents and guardians will spend the morning learning bike safety tips including proper bike riding equipment, how to wear a helmet and much more. Free food and beverage will be provided. Children must be 4-13 years of age to participate.
“It is vitally important that we teach our children how to safely ride their bicycles to avoid injury, vehicles or other potentially dangerous situations,” commented Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren. “We aim to do this in a fun and safe environment where young people can learn valuable safety skills while also enjoying other games and activities.”
All participants must pre-register by July 28, 2021 at www.hopeumc.org. Attendees should bring their children’s bike, helmet, lawn chairs, blanket and signed waiver. Parents and guardians must stay with their child(ren).
“We are thrilled to partner with our wonderful community stakeholders to present this important and fun program for our youth,” added Optimist Club of Southfield-Lathrup Village President Cherryl Thames. “We encourage all local families with young children to come out and join us on July 31!”
