Residents reminded to put out yard waste properly to expedite pickup

Southfield Department of Public Works crews are working as quickly as possible to clean up debris citywide following recent severe storms; however, work is being hampered by brush and branches that are being improperly put out at the curb.

Residents are reminded that all branches and brush must still be placed with the cut ends towards the curb for pickup. Other yard waste must be placed in approved paper yard waste bags or in a rigid container clearly marked ‘Yard Waste.’ Yard waste in plastic bags will not be accepted. Branches placed at the curb will be removed by workers with brush chippers. Depending upon the amount of branches, it may take longer than the designated trash collection day to dispose of them. Residents are encouraged to get branches and brush out to the curb as soon as possible for special pickup that may occur ahead of their scheduled collection day.

Please be patient as the City has three dedicated crews working to handle branch and brush chipping which will be ongoing throughout neighborhoods as needed as well as on residents’ designated trash collection day.
