Optimist Club of Southfield-Lathrup Village Board Member Sean Mueller installed as District Governor at 4th Quarter District Convention

Optimist Club of Southfield-Lathrup Village Board Member Sean Mueller was installed as the Optimist International Michigan District Governor, at the 4th Quarter Convention at the Kensington Hotel in Ann Arbor and he was recognized during the Optimist Club of Southfield-Lathrup Village 46th Annual Installation Program on September 30.

Mueller, age 27, began his term to serve as the District Governor for the 2024-2025 Optimist Year on October 1. He is also the youngest person to be elected to serve as a Michigan District Governor following Richard Bloom who was only 30 when he was elected as the 1982-1983 District Governor. The other members of the Optimist Club of Southfield-Lathrup Village who have served as District governor are the late Robert Di Giulio, Richard Bloom, Michael Seltzer and Cherryl R. Thames.

Mueller graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He is currently employed as an assistant in the city clerk’s office of Bloomfield Township. Mueller grew up in Clarkston, Michigan and was a Clarkston Middle School and High School Junior Optimist Club member. In college, Mueller started an Optimist International Club at SVSU. He later joined the Optimist Club of Clarkston, Michigan after he graduated from college. In 2021, Mueller transferred his membership to the Optimist Club of Southfield-Lathrup Village which is closer to his place of employment so that he can be an active club member.

The Optimist Club of Southfield-Lathrup Village is made up of local volunteers and community leaders and has serviced the communities of Southfield and Lathrup Village since May 8, 1979. With the motto “Friend of Youth” and a mission to provide hope and a positive vision to bring out the best in the community, particularly local youth, the Club promotes special programs and activities throughout the year.

The Optimist Club of Southfield-Lathrup Village 46th Annual Installation Program was an event to install the officers and directors of the organization. The event also included an awards ceremony and dinner to recognize members who have gone above and beyond in providing hope and positive vision, bringing out the best in youth, our communities and ourselves.
