Annual event honors service and sacrifice of military personnel

The cities of Southfield and Lathrup Village will host a joint Veterans’ Day Ceremony on Friday, November 8 at 11:00 a.m. in Council Chambers, 26000 Evergreen Road. 

The city of Southfield sponsors the annual event in partnership with the Southfield Veterans’ Commission to honor and recognize the service and sacrifice of military personnel. The ceremony will begin with an invocation from Senior Pastor Brent Slater of Highland Park Baptist Church followed by remarks by Council President Michael “Ari” Mandelbaum and Southfield Veterans’ Commission Chairperson Dr. Rodney Caruthers. The ceremony will also include a keynote address by WXYZ Anchor and journalist Ms. Glenda Lewis; a bugle rendition of Taps played Paul Roach of Bugles Across America; and a 21-gun salute. The event will conclude with a benediction by Rev. Dr. Theodore Turman of First Baptist Church of Detroit followed by light refreshments.
