2024 City of Southfield Memorial Day Ceremony
Mr. Butler Martin, a 101-year-old Detroit WWII veteran was honored at the City of Southfield Memorial Day Ceremony on Friday, May 24. Mr. Martin is the oldest living Montford Point Marine and one of first African Americans to serve in the United States Marine Corps.

Southfield Veterans' Commission Chairperson Dr. Rodney Caruthers and Southfield Veterans' Commission Liaison Lieutenant Bzeith Mostapha honor two fallen police officers who were also military veterans. Officer James William McMahon served in the Navy and officer Donald L. Harding served in the National Guard
The Southfield Veterans’ Commission presented a check to the city to assist Southfield veterans in need.
