Outreach Services
Southfield Human Services utilizes numerous community partnerships and outreach services to give a helping hand to those who experience hardship. These include:
- Providing consultations/referrals that direct families to resources based on identified needs (i.e.—clothing, food, utility, housing, furniture).
- Hardship assistance for qualified residents in partnership with: Northwest Unitarian Universalist Church, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Southfield/Lathrup CROP Hunger Walk, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Detroit Mar Thoma Church, Hope United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church of Detroit, Korean Presbyterian Church of Metro Detroit, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Southfield Community Foundation of SE Michigan, Family Victory Fellowship Church, DENSO, Ford Motor Credit, Midwest Independent Retailers Foundation (MIRF), Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
- Partnerships with Focus Hope and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) to provide food boxes to families and seniors.
- Partners with Southfield Goodfellows to ensure that no child is left behind at Christmas.
- Instituting the “Adopt-A-Family” program that allows area businesses, faith-based organizations and residents to contribute food and gifts to families during Thanksgiving and Christmas.
General Programs
Southfield Human Services also provides programs or facilitates program assistance for a broad range of community-related, quality-of-life items such as:
- Pro bono legal consultations provided in partnership with Lakeshore Legal Aid (divorce, landlord/tenant housing, disability rights, estate planning, expungement) & Legal Aid and Defender (veteran issues, homelessness prevention, employment/unemployment, license restoration, public benefits).
- Free homebuyer, financial literacy, and education programs with community agencies including Community Housing Network, Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency.
- Special funding programs for area veterans in conjunction with the Southfield Veterans Commission.
- Minor vehicle repair and employment solutions through a partnership with Tone Up for Tune Ups.
- Information sharing and community advocacy as the principal liaison connection between Commission on Senior Adults (COSA) and the Southfield City Council.
